Stephen Jones says the Cowboys are still open to adding a player before the Nov. 10 trade deadline

Dallas has two trades behind it and a deadline ahead

  1. Mar. 9Dallas agreed to acquire edge rusher Rashan Gary from the Packers.
  2. Oct. 1Dallas acquired cornerback Joey Porter Jr. from the Steelers.
  3. Nov. 8Cowboys play the Colts at Lucas Oil Stadium, noon CT on FOX.
  4. Nov. 10NFL trade deadline.

If you follow the Cowboys, here's where things stand. COO Stephen Jones said Monday the team remains open to adding a player before the deadline, a day after Sunday's 33-30 overtime loss to the Arizona Cardinals. "We think we're close," he said.

  • Record: 3-5, second in the NFC East behind the 4-2-1 Giants
  • Next game: Sunday, Nov. 8, at Indianapolis
  • Deadline: Nov. 10, two days after the Colts game

Jones said Dallas weighs what it gives up for this season against what it means for the future. Asked whether a loss in Indianapolis would push the Cowboys toward selling, he stuck to the game: "we're looking at getting better this week." Meanwhile, Dallas News asks whether the Cowboys would consider resting Porter, whose ankle injury persists. He's been excellent when he's been on the field, the paper notes.
